Building Community
Like Rungano-Ndota, building community is the foundation of all RYP does. We reach across the USA and the world to find people interested in advancing RNI's innovative way of helping youth build pathways out of poverty.Some people get involved as volunteers or advocates. Some give financially. Some visit Rwanda and participate in person. Some open doors to expertise or other resources.
Our community needs to consciously overcome the destructive legacy of colonialism. As we collaborate, we operate in the shadow of many generations of exploitation and mistrust. With differences in languages and cultures as well, our relationships need to be respectful and resilient in order to be productive. Patience, humility, and warm spirits are key to this positive global community. Join us!
Coaching and Collaborating
RNI and RYP have collaborated since Rungano-Ndota was born in 2016 in the Nyungwe Forest! Coaching and collaborating are the heart of our relationship.
RYP volunteers bring a variety of experiences to support RNI's innovation and growth. However, our desire to help starts with listening! Approaches from other countries are most valuable when they build on Rwandan expertise and experience. And when they focus on challenges the RNI team is positioned to address.
When possible, we meet in person. But most of our collaboration happens virtually. Areas of collaboration range from leadership development to monitoring and evaluation, marketing to lending, business planning to strategies for organizational growth.In a similar way, RNI leaders regularly collaborate with RNI youth and graduates about growth of the organization. The spirit of co-creation is fundamental across all of Rungano-Ndota.
Fundraising
International Giving & Staying Connected
Rwandan Support
RNI is now engaging Rwandan supporters as well, expanding a network they call Twese for Rungano! (All of us for Rungano-Ndota). In addition to these individual fundraising campaigns, RNI is preparing to hold its first fundraising event in Kigali in 2027.
RNI is starting to engage institutional funders like foundations, government agencies, and hopefully corporate sponsors in Rwanda. Our thanks to Someone Else's Child Foundation, which has been an annual supporter for several years already.
Thanks also to the local government of Ruhango District, which has provided space for Rungano-Ndota programs from the beginning, and now partners with RNI to fund trade school scholarships, resources for youth returning from rehab centers, and other forms of support.
Building RNI's Future Home
RNI is grateful to have an anchor gift to build a building in Ruhango as a home for RNI's innovative work. The building will also make it possible for RNI to earn funds to support the organization.
